The official launching of MNS Langkawi Office @ Frangipani Langkawi Resort & Spa

Established in 1940, the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) is the oldest and largest membership-based environmental non-government organization (NGO), with some 4,000 members in 12 branches across the country, and some international members. The branches cater for the needs of the membership, and form the focal point for conservation activities in each State. Being a membership-based organization, they have been the reason behind the protection of many key habitats as well as national and state parks in Malaysia.

The MNS Headquarters is based in Kuala Lumpur, with 27 full-time staff responsible for the administration of the Society. As for Langkawi, a pro temp committee was created in March 2009, to promote the conservation sustainable use of its natural resources. It is led by local residents and stakeholders.

MNS mission is to promote the study, appreciation, conservation and protection of Malaysia’s natural heritage

Frangipani Resorts & Spa supported the creation of the 13th branch and provided its facility for the setting up of an office. It will assist MNS in executing its many activities and long term objectives for the legendary island.

In conjunction with EARTH DAY (22 April 2009), MNS continues its call for Malaysians to celebrate and to take an active part to learn about our natural heritage, adopt sustainable lifestyle changes and to be aware that we are merely custodians of our rich natural heritage, safeguarding it for our children.
